Rear Admiral (Ret.) Toben Mikkelsen Honoured with OPCW-The Hague Award
Rear Admiral (Ret.) Toben Mikkelsen of Denmark was among the recipients of the 2025 Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Award for his leadership in removing chemical agents from Syria (2013–14) and Libya (2016) under the UN-OPCW Joint Mission. His command ensured the safe transport of nearly 1,000 tons of chemical agents from Syria and 23 containers from Libya for destruction.
The Award ceremony was held on 24 November 2025 during the Thirtieth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CSP-30) and livestreamed on the OPCW website.
OPCW Director-General Arias praised the recipients for their “significant contributions toward achieving a world free of chemical weapons.
